Less than 24 hours after trading backup goalkeeper Patrick McLain to Minnesota, Orlando City replaced him with New York City FC’s Josh Saunders.
The Lions acquired Saunders from their 2015 expansion rival in return for the club’s natural fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.
“Josh is a veteran MLS goalkeeper that will add championship experience, leadership and depth to our side with 125 appearances in 11 years in the league,” Orlando City general manager Niki Budalic said in a statement released Friday by the club.
McLain was selected by Orlando City in December’s MLS Re-entry draft and sent to Minnesota on Thursday in a blockbuster trade that included longtime Lion Kevin Molino.
