Spring football practice, which was scheduled to kick off Monday before the COVID-19 outbreak shut schools down in March, is not happening this year.
And for public school football coaches in two Tampa Bay area counties, Hillsborough and Pasco, that means no spring coaching supplementary pay according to primetimepreps.com, which covers high school sports in that region.
That costs Hillsborough coaches 30% of their annual supplements and many are complaining that the cut is a slap in the face for a job that for many is close to a year-round responsibility.
“I think that’s bad business,” said DeLand athletic director Lance Jenkins, who was a longtime football coach.
