Oak Ridge lost senior standout Jalen Smith to injury only two minutes into Friday night’s Class 7A boys basketball showdown against Dr. Phillips.
But the Pioneers, rated No. 1 in the large-school classification, still came away with a 49-47 road win against second-ranked Dr. Phillips with a goal-tending violation deciding the victory with 3.3 seconds remaining.
Oak Ridge junior guard Fabio Basili attacked the rim on a dribble drive with time running out and got his twisting shot attempt up in traffic. DP senior Ledger Hatch leaped for a block and swatted the ball against the backboard.
