New York City FC named Norwegian tactician Ronny Deila head coach Monday morning.
Deila, 44, joins NYCFC on a three-year contract after spending the last three years on the sideline with Norway’s Vålerenga. Deila also had coaching stints with Norwegian clubs Brodd (2005) and Strømsgodset (2008-14), along with Scottish powerhouse Celtic FC (2014-16), where he won the league title twice and competed in the qualifying rounds of UEFA Champions League.
Deila will officially join the club when he receives his pending U.S. work permit.
“When the opportunity came up to join New York City FC as their new head coach, it was a dream come true for me to manage an amazing club in a great city,” Deila said in a statement released by the club.
