CORAL GABLES — The Miami Hurricanes scored just enough points in their 25-23 win over Appalachian State to squeak out their first victory of the season.
But they know if they want to accomplish their goals for the season, including competing for the ACC Coastal Division title and the ACC as a whole, No. 24 UM (1-1) will need to improve its offensive showing after a sluggish start.
First, it was third-down offense that hurt Miami, with the Hurricanes struggling in that area in the season-opening loss to top-ranked Alabama.
This week, it was red-zone offense and finishing drives, with UM having four possessions where it was inside or close to Appalachian State’s 20 end with an Andy Borregales field goal attempt, with the true freshman kicker going 3 of 4.
