Nick Madrigal’s 1st career homer helps ignite the Chicago White Sox’s 16-4 rout of the Minnesota Twins: ‘I didn’t even see it go out. I was sprinting the bases like it was a triple.’

MINNEAPOLIS — Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal wasn’t certain at first that his third-inning line drive had cleared the wall at Target Field.

Madrigal, Danny Mendick and Yermín Mercedes stepped in to provide the power with the team’s top home run hitter, José Abreu, out of the lineup as the Sox pummeled the Minnesota Twins 16-4 on Monday.

Madrigal and Mercedes had solo home runs and Mendick hit a grand slam as the Sox opened the three-game series in impressive fashion.

“I know I wasn’t going to go the whole season without hitting one but it’s nice to get the first one,” Madrigal said.
