Apopka’s Metro vs. Florida Challenge, a Thanksgiving weekend event that has become a fixture on the boys basketball calendar, will not be played this year due to complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The inaugural Metro Hoop Fest will be played on the holiday weekend of Nov. 23-25 with 16 of the conference’s 20 teams taking part —including preseason favorites Dr. Phillips, Oak Ridge and Windermere High.
The event will have two eight-team tournaments, both played at The Well Activities Center in Apopka (formerly the Cooper Sports Complex), a facility that can easily accommodate two games at a time with limited seating for fans.
