Top NFL players may only see a few series to start a preseason game anyway, but the Miami Dolphins listed several of their key veterans as “not expected to play” for their exhibition opener against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Saturday.
Both starting cornerbacks in Xavien Howard and Byron Jones, top defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah were listed, along wide receivers DeVante Parker, Will Fuller, Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns. Rookies in outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips and offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg were on the pregame list, along with outside linebacker Vince Biegel and safety Brandon Jones.
Phillips had been sidelined since the fourth training-camp practice when he returned for portions of Wednesday’s joint practice with the Bears but was then held out of Thursday drills.
