Montverde Academy rode a near-perfect third quarter to a record-setting fifth GEICO High School Nationals boys basketball championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles broke up a back-and-forth battle against Sunrise Christian of Kansas after Baylor recruit Langston Love opened the second half with consecutive 3-point shots and won 62-52 in a national TV game played at Fort Myers.
Montverde (24-1), which went 3-1 against Sunrise (21-4) this season, made all 12 of its field goal attempts in the third quarter, including 3-of-3 on 3-point tries by Love, to expand a two-point halftime lead to 51-38.
Sunrise, which stopped a 44-game Montverde win streak with an overtime win at Montverde in early-February, used a 9-2 run to close the gap to 53-47.
