MLW’s Hammerstone goes from ‘brainiac' to pro-wrestling champ

In high school, Alexander Hammerstone already had his whole life planned out – his body and his mind made sure of that.

A stringbean who couldn’t bench-press 100 pounds, Hammerstone was more of an academic with a talent for geometry and problem-solving. But a dose of reality convinced him to follow his passion.

Some 13 years later, he’s one of the top stars in Major League Wrestling, which returns Wednesday night with its first new programming since the pandemic shutdown, beginning what it calls “The Restart” of its MLW Fusion TV series.

As Hammerstone was preparing for college and a career in engineering, his father suffered a stroke, so he stayed home for an extra year to take care of him.
