Major League Soccer is bracing for the possibility of a work stoppage as the clock ticks down on the deadline for renegotiating the collective bargaining agreement between players and the league.
MLS president Mark Abbott sent an email to teams and league staff instructing them to prepare for a work stoppage earlier this week, according to Jeff Carlisle of ESPN. MLS commissioner Don Garber previously set a deadline of midnight Thursday, Jan. 28, to reach a revised CBA agreement.
Player and league representatives met again Thursday ahead of the midnight deadline. The MLSPA issued a statement saying their latest proposal to the league includes more than $200 million in economic concessions and a two-year extension of the CBA, in addition to a revised CBA framework for 2025 and 2026.
