Major League Soccer announced a one-week extension of its deadline to reach a new collective bargaining agreement with the MLS Players Association, characterizing the two sides as “very far apart” in negotiations.
The new deadline is 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 4. If an agreement is not reached by that time, the league’s Labor Committee voted unanimously to terminate the CBA completely and invoke a lockout.
In a statement, the league stated its latest offer submitted to the players on Thursday included 100% player compensation for the 2021 season. In exchange, the CBA would extend through the 2027, an effort the league says is aimed to recoup on losses from the two seasons impacted by the pandemic.
