Miami Hurricanes pitcher Jake Smith became the second UM player picked up on Day 2 of the MLB draft, with the Los Angeles Angels taking the right-hander in the sixth round with the No. 171 overall pick on Monday.
Smith joined Miami in 2021 after spending the 2019 season with Chipola College and 2020 with State College of Florida.
He was one the Hurricanes’ most reliable starters this past season, recording a 3.45 ERA in 18 games — seven starts — including starting and pitching at least three innings in his last five appearances of the 2021 season.
