CORAL GABLES — For multiple Miami Hurricanes coaches, it hasn’t been surprising to see Keontra Smith adjust to his new position without many hitches.
Smith, who joined UM as a safety in 2019 and played as a backup striker — Miami’s linebacker/safety hybrid position — last year, moved to weak inside linebacker during the spring and has been making a strong case for the starter’s job during preseason camp
He recorded four tackles for losses, a sack and a pass breakup in the Hurricanes’ first scrimmage last Sunday and has regularly been getting reps with the presumed first-team defense during practices over the last couple of weeks.
