And on Saturday evening, Tulsa — Tulsa!!! — once again upset then 11th-ranked UCF after the Knights committed 18 penalties, including 10 — 10! — false-start penalties.
Just to be clear, if you read the column, I wasn’t saying that UCF’s inexcusable, inexplicable, false-start penalties were being overblown; I was referring to penalties of aggression like personal fouls, pass interferences, etc. As I wrote, some of the greatest teams in college football history have also been among the most-penalized teams in college football history.
But it doesn’t matter; the original column looks dumb now.
