In a boys weightlifting season where Mount Dora, Orange City University, East River and Harmony all enjoyed breakout seasons and historic team success the strongest statement was made by Winter Springs senior Marvin Collins.
The burly Bears strongman set school records with a 350-pound clean-and-jerk lift and 750-pound total to dominate his weight class (238) at the Florida High School Athletic Association state tournament.
Buzz: Two months after winning a Class 2A state wrestling championship Collins claimed a FHSAA weightlifting state title in dominating fashion. He bench-pressed 400 pounds and hoisted 350 overhead in the clean-and-jerk for a 750 total that was best in Florida across all three classifications and all weight classes.
