Getting a regular season game scheduled this fall between two of the area’s winningest high school football teams in recent years was unsuccessful.
Fans will get the next best thing this week, though, as a full slate of annual preseason Kickoff Classic games is highlighted by defending Class 8A state champion Sanford Seminole playing at Jones High on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Seminole, which has not lost a regular season or postseason road game since 2015, closed out a 12-0 campaign at No. 1 in the Sentinel Varsity Super 16 rankings last fall. Jones finished No. 2 in the area after going 8-1 and reaching the Class 5A regional final round.
