FORT MYERS — Valeria Rosado carried Lyman to its first girls volleyball state champion on Sunday night, posting 46 kills to lead the Greyhounds to victory against Lake Nona in an epic five-game match at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
No. 1-ranked Lyman lost the first game and was down 2-1 before rallying to win 17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9 against the second-ranked Lions in the FHSAA Class 7A state final. The fourth set was a crucial turning point.
The Greyhounds (29-1) jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fifth and final game. Rosado, a senior outside hitter, had nine kills in that set to help her team close out an epic battle of first-time finalists.
