It wasn’t a perfect performance by Malik Willis, but the Liberty quarterback did more than enough to power the Flames to their second consecutive FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl title, directing the team to a wild 37-34 overtime win against No. 12 Coastal Carolina Saturday night.
Willis scored a career high four rushing touchdowns while steering Liberty (10-1) to its first win over a ranked opponent. The redshirt junior finished with 137 rushing yards and had scoring runs of 5, 6, 10 and 3 yards to power a Flames attack.
Coastal Carolina (11-1) saw its perfect season come to a heartbreaking end after Liberty blocked a 42-yard field goal attempt by Massimo Biscardi in overtime to seal the win.
