I was the first girl on the first track team at my high school in 1973, after Title IX passed. I went to state in the discus and shot put. I am also a track and field official and have worked dozens of meets from grade school to college. I know firsthand the numbers and the ability of these athletes. Nowhere in the April 22 guest column (”Physicians to Florida Legislature: Let trans girls play girls sports”) do the physicians show concern for the mental well-being of girls who are not transgender, except to mention the competitive disadvantage.
Doctors, of all people, should admit the differences in the sexes pertaining to physical strength and speed.
