Lake Minneola senior running back Sidarius “Duke” Walker was greeted with enthusiasm upon returning to school Monday morning, three days after helping his football team clinch a spot in an FHSAA state championship game for the first time.
The Hawks, who defeated St. Augustine 49-48 in three overtimes Friday, became the first Lake County team to reach a state final since Eustis won the Class 2A title in 1983.
“It was crazy. There was a lot of people coming up to me saying ‘Congratulations’,” said Walker. “I’ve just been telling them that we’re not done yet. We’ve still got one more to go.
