Lake Mary used takeaways to turn the tide and hand visiting Oviedo its first loss of the season, 38-23, in high school football on Friday night.
The host Rams (3-1) trailed 14-7 after one quarter but surged ahead with two TD passes by junior quarterback Gunnar Smith before halftime. Lake Mary then seized control of the game when Smith connected with Al-Nour Yacoub for a 42-yard TD pass in the third quarter and threw to Rocco Underwood for a 74-yard scoring play with 8:53 to go.
“Gunnar [Smith] made some plays,” Lake Mary coach Scott Perry said after the game.
