Lake Brantley’s running game and a last-minute goal line stand propelled the Patriots to a 35-27 win against Evans in high school football on Friday night.
Senior running back Mason Norwood was the centerpiece of the Patriots triple option offense. He carried the ball 30 times for 223 yards and four touchdowns as Brantley ran its record to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Class 8A District 3. Evans, which lost 34-32 against Lake Brantley in a playoff game last fall, is 2-1 and 0-1 in league play.
Norwood’s success brought more Evans defenders into the box, which allowed quarterback Braxton Woodson to find open space on the outside.
