Facing open-heart surgery in spring 2018, Kenneth Horsey Jr. was afraid his college football career was over before it started.
A Sanford Seminole High senior at the time, Horsey was headed to Kentucky on a full scholarship if the 18-year-old recovered smoothly from the surgery.
“My immediate thought was, ‘Am I going to be able to play football again?’ That was really my only thought at the time,” said Horsey, an offensive lineman who is a semifinalist for the 2020 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year award. “I was getting ready to go to Kentucky in two months.
