The Miami Dolphins signed a former Pro Bowler (Jordan Howard) and traded for one of the NFL’s fastest tailbacks (Matt Breida) last offseason hoping that one, or both would inject life into the team’s stagnant rushing attack.
But little did they know that Gaskin, a 2019 seventh-round pick, was the tailback who would consistently shine in training camp, and, when given opportunity in the season opener, cement himself as the team’s starter.
Gaskin was the most glaring example of a second-year jump the Dolphins benefited from last season, as NFL sophomores such as Gaskin, defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, receiver Preston Williams and cornerback Nik Needham, drastically elevated their game, and improved their level of contribution to last year’s 10-6 team.
