After 39 seasons of coaching on every level possible, the grizzled football lifer had officially entered the final frontier once the Jets’ 2016 season concluded.
The 68-year-old didn’t get the itch to design plays while watching a game. His agent hadn’t put out job feelers, like assistants often have their representatives do to gauge possible interest.
“I have five grandsons and I was watching them play all the sports that they play and going to school events and playing a decent amount of golf for the last three years,” said Gailey, who owns a 34–46 record as an NFL coach, and a 68-41 mark as coach in college football.
