As Kaká made his return from injury in the 60th minute of last Saturday’s game versus the Colorado Rapids, defender Will Johnson handed the captain’s armband to the former FIFA World Player of the Year.
“Will [Johnson] gave [Kaká] the captain’s armband so that’s a sign to everybody that Will respects him as the captain of this team,” said Orlando City Head Coach Jason Kreis. “When he’s on the field he will be the captain.”
Kaká did not expect to be given the armband in the middle of the game, but he appreciates Johnson’s gesture.
“It seems everyone understands what we want here, right now,” Kaka said.
