Kaká replaces injured player on Brazil's Copa America roster

Kaká’s disappointment over not being called up by the Brazilian national team for the Copa América Centenario tournament did not last long.

Orlando City’s team captain was selected as the replacement for midfielder Douglas Costa late Thursday night, according to a two-sentence post on the national team’s official website and Twitter account. Costa withdrew from the tournament due to injury.

Brazil coach Dunga named Kaká to the 40-man provisional roster but did not select him for the final roster earlier this month.

Brazil plays a friendly against Panama on Sunday in the Denver area, which means Kaká likely will miss Orlando City’s match against NYCFC at Yankee Stadium at 4:30 p.
