No one knows how the U.S. men’s national would’ve performed at the 2018 World Cup in Russia because they didn’t even qualify for the tournament. But Jurgen Klinsmann, the manager who was fired in 2016 during a rocky World Cup qualification campaign, is sure he could’ve steered the USMNT far.
In an interview with ESPN’s Adrian Healey released Tuesday, Klinsmann said he thinks he could’ve steered the USMNT to the semifinal round in Russia, which would’ve been the USMNT’s best-ever showing in a World Cup.
“It’s a very difficult job Gregg Berhalter has on his hands to rebuild this entire program, which we were actually in a good place,” Klinsmann said.
