TAMPA — Jones turned a challenging year into a positive in 2020, but on Friday night it saw the season end with a 40-24 loss at Tampa Jesuit. It was the Class 5A Region 3 championship, and both programs came into the game undefeated.
Jones (8-1) actually held a four-point lead early in the third quarter, only to see Jesuit rally to score 20 unanswered points in the final 21 minutes of play, all three scores coming via the arm of 6-foot-4 Holy Cross commitment Joe Pesansky.
It ended a quest for a young Jones team to make it back to the state title game, where it fell last season to Miami Northwestern.
