The Jones High defense, which had held opponents to just 11 points in its last three games, was at it again Friday night, posting its second straight shut out with a 32-0 victory over Zephyrhills in a Class 5A region semifinal at Jones.
Jones held Zephyrhills to just one first down in the first half and the Zephyrhills offense never crossed the 50-yard line until the third quarter. Zephyrhills ended up with seven first downs overall, with the final six coming against the second- and third-string defensive unit as Jones took an opportunity to empty its bench.
The victory sends Jones (8-0) into the next round with a road game at Tampa Jesuit, which defeated Orlando Bishop Moore 43-23.
