As the Miami Hurricanes basketball teams held a remote media day on Friday, the men’s group announced a major blow in that it will be missing power forward Sam Waardenburg for the season.
Even without the team’s leading rebounder (6 per game) in Waardenburg, a 6-foot-10 redshirt senior who started 24 games last season, the Hurricanes have high hopes to compete with the elite in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They’ll do it with a senior-laden unit that adds an infusion of upstart young talent.
“We’re going to dramatically miss his defense, his rebounding, his experience and just his overall demeanor on the court,” said Miami coach Jim Larrañaga, entering his 10th season leading UM, of losing Waardenburg.
