Miami Hurricanes defensive end and Lake Worth grad Jonathan Garvin was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the NFL draft, pick No. 242, on Saturday.
Garvin (6-foot-4, 263 pounds) declared for the draft a year early after registering 37 tackles, nine for loss, five sacks and two forced fumbles as a junior.
As a sophomore, he was his most dominant self with 60 tackles, 17 for loss, 5 1/2 sacks, five pass breakups and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Benefiting then from playing opposite of Joe Jackson, now with the Dallas Cowboys, his presence last season also served a similar purpose in helping Greg Rousseau break out for 15 1/2 sacks as a redshirt freshman.
