All-Pro cornerback Xavien Howard and the Miami Dolphins are at odds over his contract as the start of training camp nears with players reporting on July 27 and the first practice set for the following day.
In 2019, Howard signed a five-year, $75 million extension that tied him to the Dolphins through 2024. It was a record contract for an NFL cornerback at the time, but it quickly became an outdated figure as five others at his position now make more annually — including teammate Byron Jones.
Howard has wanted to renegotiate his deal since the end of last season, one in which he led the NFL with 10 interceptions, making him a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
