CLERMONT — Windermere Prep nearly put a bow on the most decorated softball season in the history of the program.
Holy Names (18-5) scored twice in the bottom half of the seventh Thursday night to walk off as FHSAA Class 3A state champions with a 4-3 win over Windermere Prep (25-2).
Sophomore centerfielder Piper Hofmann singled up the middle with two outs and Zoie Pistel raced home from second base to score the go-ahead run for Windermere Prep.
“When Piper got that key hit, I thought the miracle was going to happen,” Windermere Prep coach Wes Pollock said.
