High school football practices open with 22 new head coaches in Orlando area

A decal on the back of Horizon High School football helmets reads “IKE” in honor of late assistant coach Isiah “Ike” Wilson IV, who played a big role this spring in building the foundation for the first-year program.

The memory of Wilson, a former Florida Gators defensive back who died June 3 following a lengthy battle with cancer, will serve as inspiration for the Hawks’ debut season.

“He was a great coach and a good friend,” said Horizon head coach Dennis Thomas. “It’s unfortunate and we miss him, but I’ll take everything I learned from the guy and make sure we put it into action.
