CROMWELL — Three hours after Bubba Watson’s back-nine collapse, four hours after Marc Leishman’s close-but-not-enough surge and seven hours after Kevin Kisner’s final-round best 63, two golfers remained on the course, slugging out a two-hour sudden-death playoff, serving up a clinic in mid-range putting and, above all else, scrapping and clawing to see another hole.
For all the stars and former champions that were in shouting distance of a win for much of Sunday, it was Harris English and Kramer Hickok battling to the end — and then some — to win the Travelers Championship.
Both sank birdie putts on the 18th hole in regulation to force a playoff at TPC River Highlands, and needed eight playoff holes — the second most in PGA Tour history — to determine a victor.
