Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a sweeping gambling deal Friday with the Seminole Tribe of Florida that could bring legalized sports betting to Florida and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for the state, drawing to a close months of negotiations over the contentious issue.
The deal now heads to the Florida Legislature, which will take up the issue next month in a special session.
Specific terms have not been released by the governor’s office, but the agreement is said to allow the Seminole Tribe to serve as a hub for sports betting with wagers being placed at existing casinos, professional sporting venues and pari-mutuel facilities, which include horse racing tracks and jai alai arenas.
