GAINESVILLE — UF guard Scottie Lewis knocked off the rust, ditched his platinum blonde locks and displayed midseason form much of Wednesday night against Vanderbilt.
But Lewis’ four-game layoff for COVID-19 caught up to the Gators’ sophomore late in the game as a 22-point lead nearly slipped away during a 78-71 win over the Commodores.
A late foul and two missed free throws by Lewis — a 78.4% shooter from the foul line — helped Vanderbilt pull within 76-71 during the game’s final minute. The 20-year-old showed his frustration by punching himself in the head several times.
