HOOVER, ALA. — The SEC navigated the 2020 football season as well as any conference amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commissioner Greg Sankey aims to do it again. Yet, many of the league’s member institutions, including UF, have not reached the vaccination threshold the SEC requires.
Sankey said Monday six of 14 football programs have achieved an 80% vaccination rate. Those reaching the 85% threshold will not require players and coaches to test regularly or wear face coverings inside team facilities.
“That number needs to grow and grow rapidly,” Sankey said. “We have learned how to manage through a COVID environment, but we do not yet have control of a COVID environment.
