He was ranked as a four-star quarterback prospect coming out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, where he was named the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year in 2016.
The 23-year-old signal caller entered the transfer portal in January after joining the Hurricanes from Ohio State — where he was a backup for two seasons — during the 2019 offseason.
After losing the starting quarterback competition to Jarren Williams ahead of the 2019 season, Martell briefly switched to wide receiver before returning to being a quarterback and not receiving much playing time at either position.
