The Florida Gators annual rivalry football game with Florida State will not be played for the first time since 1957 after the SEC reportedly voted Thursday to play a 10-game, conference-only schedule.
The school presidents from each of the league’s 14 schools met Thursday and approved a plan set forth by SEC athletic directors Wednesday to play 10 games solely against conference members in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision ends several traditional matchups pitting SEC and ACC schools, including the annual UF-FSU game played each late November and contested since the Eisenhower Administration. Georgia and Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Clemson, and Kentucky and Louisville are the other annual in-state rivalries between schools in the two leagues.
