Florida Tech is eliminating its football program due to the economic strain caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the school announced Monday.
The school, which is located in Melbourne, started its football program in 2013 and is a member of the Gulf South Conference. It competes at the NCAA Division II level.
“The unprecedented uncertainty created by COVID-19 makes these moves prudent, but no less painful,” President Dwayne McCay wrote in a letter addressed to campus community. “We must do what is necessary to preserve resources critical to our educational mission and ensure our ability to successfully serve students when face-to-face instruction resumes this fall.
