The Florida High School Athletic Association continues to study its hotly-debated classification policy, which determines the level of competition each of its member schools face in their bids for district, region and state championships.
The Gainesville-based FHSAA staff sent surveys out this summer to members of its sport advisory committees — which include school athletic directors and coaches from all varsity sports. They were asked to consider three options and rank them first, second and third.
- Divide teams by student enrollment counts, the longstanding FHSAA method.
- Classify based on county population, which could mean a Metro division for schools in Orlando, Miami, Tampa, etc.
