The Florida High School Athletic Association’s board of directors voted Monday to revamp its state semifinals structure for football, girls volleyball and boys and girls soccer.
The longstanding geographic practice of matching the champions of Region 1 vs. Region 2 and Region 3 vs. Region 4 is history. In its place for the four sports that play semifinals at home sites is a system that will re-seed the final four teams via FHSAA power rankings generated by MaxPreps.
The change means that teams from North and Central Florida that sit in the top half of the bracket could now be matched up with South Florida schools in state semifinal games.
