Dr. Phillips has dominated its high school football district for more than a decade and Jones has done the same since 2017.
It looks like that will become a more difficult task for both this fall after the Florida High School Athletic Association realigned teams statewide for the 2021 season with a long-awaited plan that brings mandatory district competition back into the equation for the state’s larger schools.
DP now finds itself in Class 8A District 9 alongside last year’s large-class state runner-up, Kissimmee Osceola, and West Orange, which is on the rise under first-year coach Mike Granato, who arrived prior to the 2020 season.
