When the Evans High football team kicked off its season Friday night at Longwood Lyman, it was supposed to be the beginning of big things for running back Jeremiah Simms.
The Evans senior was poised to produce the best season of his high school career. He had two things in mind: winning games and earning scholarships. There will be none of that.
If Evans does win games, he’ll be watching from the sidelines, not helping the Trojans set a new course under first-year coach Kenard Lang. And as for those scholarships, well, he won’t dwell on what cannot be attained.
