Evans players eager to finally play after COVID-19 shutdown

Jeremiah Simms said he almost cried Sept. 15, the day he learned some of his Evans teammates had tested positive for COVID-19.

The results meant the Trojans would not be able to open the 2020 football season as planned and the had to sit out at least two weeks.

“That was two games taken off our schedule, but we came back and tested again. … I was a little [nervous],” Simms said.

Evans was scheduled to play West Orange during the opening week of the season and Jones the second week. During the two-week period, the Evans football team was in quarantine and could not practice until the next round of COVID-19 tested cleared the team this past Wednesday.
