NICEVILLE — Jack Howes never saw his 40-yard kick hit off the crossbar and bounce through the uprights at Eagle Stadium.
But then came the reaction from his teammates. His sideline. His red-clad fans that made the six-hour trek from Orlando for the 7A state semifinal at Niceville’s standing-room-only Eagle Stadium.
The clutch field goal with two seconds to go sealed a 30-28 roller-coaster win and advanced Edgewater into next Saturday’s 7A championship for the second straight year.
“I knew I had to make it,” Howes said. “I knew it was going to come down to me.
