After coming away with thrilling playoff wins in the final moments each of the past two weeks, the Eagles (7-3) turned the ball over five times and never recovered during a 31-21 loss to Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (8-1) in the Class 7A state final.
The game was a rematch of Aquinas’ 28-23 state championship win last year in Daytona. Saturday’s win in front of an announced crowd of 1,632 at Doak Campbell Stadium gave the Raiders their 12th FHSAA state title, all since 1992, to break a tie with Jacksonville Bolles for most by any program in Florida.
